Buying in Real Life:
Meet Abby & Doug
When we first started looking at properties, Abby, who teaches art to special needs kids, told us having a weird, old house to call her own was a lifelong dream she’d never let go of.
We knew we had to make this happen for her.

And when we found a single family home that had long ago been converted into a triplex with two 1-bedroom units and a 3-bedroom unit on the top floor, we hit the “weird, old house” jackpot. Abby had already qualified with Landed, a down payment assistance program that helps “essential professionals” (like educators), but wanted additional support fixing up the rental units. So Abby asked her dad, Doug, if he would co-invest with her.
This property was special: Abby could provide affordable rent to others and simultaneously use the rental income to help pay for the property expenses. A tarot card reading indicated the next year would be all about moving and being in this new place. That extra push from the universe helped us all to stay the course and it turned out the cards were right! Abby is now in a weird, old house to call her own, and Doug, who just retired, is focused on doing renovations, managing contractors, and getting the other units move-in ready for renters. What went from feeling overwhelming alone became possible together.

Selling in Real Life:
Meet Caitlin & Kayla
Instead of waiting for an imagined milestone, friends Caitlin and Kayla purchased a 5 bdr home together and opened it as a community house lovingly called ‘Bear Creek’.
Over the next three years, their lives changed radically.

Kayla met a partner, got engaged and decided to move to Wisconsin to be closer to her fiance’s family.
Caitlin became a single mother and wanted to travel to intentional communities across the country in a converted school bus to find the perfect community to raise her son in.
They turned to us to sell the house in hopes of passing down it’s legacy. In just three years, their investment made such meaningful equity that they were able to share $60,000 and were able to use the proceeds to further their future individual (though still community-driven) goals.
You don’t have to wait until you have a stable partner, or are ready to have children, or have 20% of a down payment to begin climbing the ladder of equity building. Wherever they lived, Caitlin and Kayla would likely have had roommates anyway, but by buying together instead of individually they were able to buy what they wanted, where they wanted, and offer affordable rent and beautiful experiences to others — all while building equity for their future selves!
